Robert Mapplethorpe right off the bat caught me off guard, it made me think and accept a new type of art that I normally wasn't very attracted to. That is something that is really amazing to me, if it caught me off guard and really made me think, I could only imagine how many other opinions and dislikes he has gotten from the public and the people that aren't as accepting. People in the art work are not afraid to express their opinion to other artists that might not showcase the type of work that they are used to.  The one thing that really caught my attention was the fact that he supported doing something out of the norm in order to get his name out there and recognized. The problem is that doing something "out of the norm" could really just be expressing your true personality and and true identity.
